A man that has suffered
from emotional and physical abuse for years without
once hitting his wife or partner is not a wimp, he is a real hero. A hero
that patiently, with a great love and massive compassion seeks to find
any
way he can to pacify the women he loves without violence. He will talk
to
her for hours. He will strive to remain calm during the most violent storms
of cruel and hate filled invective. He will shield and protect his children
from her rage. He will go working day after day to feed his family. Only
when his tired mind and heart can no longer suppress the tears and pain
she
has put him through will he seek help for his condition.
Like the men in the trenches at the battles of the first world war he
will bravely and calmly
put up with all kinds of horrors until finally shocked by never ending
abuse
he cries out for help. During the second world war they shot men like
that
for cowardice, but these were no cowards. They were brave lionhearted
men
driven beyond endurance.
Even so, today we still shoot them! Today we curl our lips and sneer
at them.
We force them to break because we do not care about them.
We turn our backs on them and think we are civilised. We laugh
at their pain and call them cruel names, adding to their shame and their
agony. We emasculate them further by refusing them the dignity of a refuge
to go too. We close our hearts and our wallets and call ourselves human
beings.
Those of us who do these things are no better than the men who beat
women and children to a pulp. We are no better than the general who orders
the firing squad to end the life of a young man because he could not look
on
severed limbs and blood washed trenches any more. We tolerate the kind
of
scum that mock these brave men because we cannot face our own prejudices.
We
are the weak ones not these men! When we hide behind our facade of
intelligence but close our minds to the suffering of our fellow man we
reveal what we really are. We show the world; our friends; our neighbours;
that it is us who are diseased and cowardly, not the brave man who has
been
repeatedly assaulted and abused in the home and then again, by us.
The policeman who refuses to help and the politician sipping brandy in
some
exclusive club with his fellow vultures and who ignores the cries of these
men are the real evil in our land. Their corrupt and empty hearts pretend
to
have love and compassion within them but their actions speak otherwise.
Too
frightened to risk their careers by speaking out and demanding justice
it is
these "men" and "women", these "little"
people who are the real wimps. These
are the REAL cowards too afraid to face up to their responsibilities.
These
are the REAL bullies in our lands. These are the abusive wife's CO-abusers.
Let it be these cowards who face the bullets of our indifference and not
the
brave men who patiently die or get maimed in the trenches of the abusive
homes.
Let those men who have suffered regain their dignity and pride by speaking
out! Give them a platform to stand on where they can speak to the people
without shame. Encourage them to name their pain and demand fair treatment.
Until then; until the day they can do it themselves; let it be us that
speak
for them!

Silence. Join us and help us to say what the politicians, police, radical
feminists, school teachers, doctors, researchers, professors and the men
and
women in the street are too afraid to say. That we will no longer accept
the
cowardly view that we should ignore the men who suffer pain behind closed
doors. These men need your support. Show yourself to be as brave as they
are
and stand up and be counted.
