Below is one mans story of domestic violence against him by his female partner.

This e-mail is typical of the kind of stories male victims of domestic violence relate to me again and again. One cannot listen to, or read, stories of this kind over and over again without wondering what would happen to the reported crime figures if such sexist bigotry did not exist within official bodies such as the police, social services and government?

We are constantly told by Women's Aid, government ministers, the press, the BBC and countless others, including the police, that 81% (they used to say 95%) of domestic violence is carried out by men on women. However, those numbers are not derived from domestic violence studies but from reported crime figures which suits some politicians but does not tell the truth. My own study of 400 men who called my 24 hr help line in 2003 showed that 74% of them had NOT received help from the police when they reported the violence against them in the home. How would the reported crime figures appear if they had?

The question then remains, why are these men not being heard? The police have a vested interest in ignoring them. Such a policy keeps the crime figures down. I suspect the same is true for the ruling Labour party politicians although there are deeper reasons behind their disinterest also. Anyone with any sense knows that you cannot discover the prevalence of crime from reported crime figures alone. To do that you need to commission a detailed, scientific and non biased study. Take date rape for example: Women's organisations, the police and government ministers constantly tell us that a certain amount of women report date rape every year but, they add darkly, the figure is CERTAIN TO BE MUCH HIGHER BECAUSE MOST VICTIMS DO NOT REPORT. Therefore, it is patently obvious that the reported crime figures alone are NOT painting a true picture of an horrendous crime.

Exactly the same is true for male victims of domestic violence but blind bigotry and prejudice is preventing these agencies admitting it. One has to wonder if these people who think they are so intelligent really are as smart as they claim to be. After all, hatred and bigotry need no intellect to thrive. What is really mystifying to reasonable people looking at this situation for male victims is that there are hundreds of studies available to both the police, Women's Aid and the government as a whole which PROVE that men suffer EQUAL amounts of domestic violence in the home. Yet prejudicial blinkers prevent these people from looking at the evidence. Instead, men like Jack Straw and women like Harriet Harman tell us that "Domestic violence is men hitting women." Sometimes it feels like people who work to help male victims as I do may as well be asking the Ku Klux Klan to give up their hatred of black people. These attitudes bring all those who carry them into grave and injurious disrepute. Fighting them is a privilege.

Please, take time to read the account below and ask yourself what this man has to do to be protected under the law and why is it that he is afforded the rank of second class citizen by those who claim to have ALL of our peoples interests at heart? After all, if he were to snap under pressure from his abuser and kill her, the press, the government and the BBC would not be reporting he suffered from "Battered Mans Syndrome" and ought to be released from custody forthwith. Instead, in their biased blindness, they would be calling for him to be made an example of as a typically abusive man. Make no mistake, the women who abuse men know EXACTLY how to manipulate the system and the police and untrained people are easily fooled. That, however, is no excuse for bias, dogmatic hatred and bigotry on the part of those who we elect to govern and protect us ALL.

Hi was interested to see your web site, but the server is changing, i had an experience of this, and it wasnt pleasant, but i think the attitude of the police annoyed me nearly as much as she did.

I have to say it wasnt a bad case, more the mental torture, but she did hit me and break things during the relationship, but after, she called me at all hours of the night, till 5 am, all withheld numbers, hanging up, the silent crank calls, she threatened me on email that i was getting visits, all because i had her tennis racket! When i did eventually meet her, to try and stop it and give her tennis racket back, when i asked for a donation towards all the damage she had done, she had brought 2 men with her who attacked me! and threatened to break my kneecaps if i "pestered "her again, as i hadnt even phoned her,and she was calling me at all hours, i found this a bit scary and strange, so i went to the police, gave them the times of all the calls, her number she was making the calls from, showed them the email threats, and nothing was done for 3 months, they only interviewed her when 3 months later i got more calls, i am sure the whole incident was captured on cctv, yet i dont think the police ever even checked it.

We all know, if i had been ringing this girl all night, sending her threatening emails, and she was then attacked in the street in broad daylight, in front of cctv cameras, id be right in it,the police would have been straight round my house, so what can we do?
